according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."
II Thessalonians 1:12
What We Believe
(The Statement of Faith of Grace International Baptist Church)
We believe that the Bible alone, and the Bible in its entirety, is the Word of God written and is therefore inerrant in the original manuscripts. This written word of God consists of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments and is the supreme authority in all matters of belief and behavior.i
We believe that God is a Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each an uncreated person, one in essence, equal in power and glory.ii
We believe that God is sovereign in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgment.iii
We believe that since the fall, the whole of humankind is sinful and guilty, so that everyone is subject to God's wrath and condemnation.iv
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, God's incarnate Son, is fully God; he was born of a virgin; his humanity is real and sinless; he died on the cross, was raised bodily from death and is now reigning over heaven and earth.v
We believe that provision is made for sinful human beings to be redeemed from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only through the sacrificial death once and for all time of their representative and substitute, Jesus Christ, the only mediator between them and God.vi
We believe that those who believe in Christ are pardoned all their sins and accepted in God's sight only because of the righteousness of Christ credited to them; this justification is God's act of undeserved mercy, received solely by trust in him and not by their own efforts.vii
We believe that the Holy Spirit alone makes the work of Christ effective to individual sinners, enabling them to turn to God from their sin and to trust in Jesus Christ.viii
We believe that the Holy Spirit lives in all those he has regenerated. He makes them increasingly Christ-like in character and behavior and gives them power for their witness in the world.ix
We believe that the one holy universal church is the Body of Christ, to which all true believers belong.x
We believe that a visible Church of Christ is a congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel; observing the ordinances of Christ; governed by his laws, and exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by his Word; that its only scriptural officers are Elders, and Deacons, whose qualifications, claims, and duties are defined in the Epistles to Timothy and Titus. xi
We believe that Christian Baptism is the immersion in water of a believer, into the name of the Father, and Son, and Holy Spirit; to show forth, in a solemn and beautiful emblem, our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior, with its effect in our death to sin and resurrection to a new life; and that it is prerequisite to the privileges of Church membership.xii
We believe the Lord's Supper is given to the Church as a solemn memorial in which the members of the Church, by the sacred use of bread and the fruit of the vine, are to commemorate together the dying love of Christ; preceded always by solemn self-examination. xiii
We believe that the first day of the week is the Lord's Day, and it is to be kept sacred to religious purposes by the devout observance of all the means of grace, both private and public; and by preparation for that rest that remains for the people of God. If it is not possible to set aside the Lord's Day in this way, the believer is encouraged and exhorted to establish another day during the week for these purposes. xiv
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will return in person, to judge everyone, to execute God's just condemnation on those who have not repented and to receive the redeemed to eternal glory.xv
